Improvised solo ukulele pieces; heavily inspired by various Norwegian folk music stylings. The word 'slått' means a piece of music, mainly instrumental, and many such pieces are deceptively simple in structure. Short motives, sometimes only two bars, are repeated and modified throughout the piece, creating a suggestive, intense mood. I am not a traditional folk musician, and I have not grown up in a folk music environment, so these little 'slåtts' are my own improvised versions of moods and personal impressions of the tradition. Surprisingly, the ukulele, an instrument very far removed from Norwegian folk tradition, is quite effective. It becomes a sort of cross between dulcimer, pizzicato fiddle, and guitar; well suited to dive into the deep waters of Norwegian darkness and its companion - the long light summer nights.
